Whether a source of pride, or a source of sorrow men are very aware of their penis -- and how big it is--or isn't.

In North America the latest in cosmetic surgery for men is penile enlargement. The following information is taken from the 1-800-Surgeon web site.

Who is a candidate for this type of procedure? Elective surgery such as penis enlargement surgery is ideally performed on healthy individu- als. Surgery is not recom- mended on patients who are heavy smokers or diabetics. Persons with chronic heart, lung, liver, vascular, rheumatologic and immuno- logic disorders are alse not good elective surgery candi- dates.

Why is the patient’s own fat used?

Fat is the ideal augmentation material. It is obviously not synthetic and therefore can not be rejected by the body.

What are the benefits of the enlargement surgery?

Longer shaft, larger circum- ference (girth) of the shaft of the penis and a bigger head, producing the obvious esthetic and mechanical benefits.

Will the penis feel stiffer after the surgery?

The penis enlargement sur- gery does not change the strength or duration of your erection.

Does the surgery affect the sensation in the penis?

Due to swelling, there may be some transitory decreased skin sensation, fora few days only.

Is BIGGER really Better?

What are the risks and pos- sible complications of hav- ing this surgery? Thesurgery has no physiologi- cal effects on penis function. There are always possible risks with surgery suchas bleeding, infection, and reaction to the anesthesia. The surgical risks are inherent with any proce- dure but occur very seldom.

Can I get an allergic reac- tion from the fat graft?

No. It is impossible to get an allergic reaction to one’s own fat or tissue.

When can sexual activity be resumed? After 4 weeks.

How much can the penis be augmented?

About 2"-3" Increase in cir- cumference can be expected.

How permanent are the re- sults?

Fat that is transplanted remains permanent only when it devel- ops it’s own blood supply. This can vary in time depending on the individual. Dermal-fat grafts become more perma- nent than injected fat. Once the graft has “taken” it will become permanent.

What is the cost for surger- ies?

Lengthening and Thickening done together is $7,500. Dermal-fat grafting (thicken- ing) only is $5,500. Lengthening only is $4,500.

How long does the surgery take?

Approximately 2-1/2 hours for fat grafting, and 60 minutes for fat injections.

What is the recovery time after the ligament surgery?

“sore” for up to a week. You may not take a shower until 4 days after the surgery.

Will there be any visible scars On my penis?

The advancement procedure (lengthening) requires an Inci- sion on the skin over the pubic area. That Incision is approxi- mately one Inch long and becomes hidden in the pubic hair. No Incision is made on the penile shaft.

Will the penis appear longer in the flaccid or erect state or both?

Both!

How much can the penis be advanced (lengthened) through surgery?

This varies with every patient and may be from | to 2 Inches or more. The length of the advancement can not be pre- dicted before surgery, as the length and the anatomy of the ligaments is unknown until the time of surgery.

What is the correct way to measure a penis?

The measurements are always taken when the penis is erect. Length is determined by firmly pressing a ruler on the topside of the penis against the pubic bone and measuring all the way out to thetip of the (glans) head. Uncircumcised men should retract the foreskin to get a true reading, when taking this measurement. The thick- ness of a penis could be meas- ured either by the diameter or by the girth (circumference). For simplicity reasons we use the girth method. Girth is meas- ured around the penile shaft at the base of the penis.

Statistics on Penis Sizes

The following information about penis sizes was taken from the Kinsey Institute of Sex Research. The study was performed on a group of college men.

Penis Length :

All measurements were taken when the penises were erect from a point at the base of the penis where the top of the penile shaft meets the pubic area (the peno-pubic junction) to the tip of the glans (‘head’). For uncircumcised men the foreskin was retracted.

Penis Girth Girth is measured at mid-shaft around the circum fer- ence of the penis when the penis is erect.
