He said the Bill is intended to amend the Act of 1851 which provides

Mr. Sunuivan moved that the House do now regolve itself into a Committee of the Whole to take into consideration the pro-

priety of amending the law relating to Pedalers. The present law is not a bad ove; but it has not been well observed. Peddlers interfere with

the regular trade of the country. Some of them pay the small fee required by the law; the larger proportion do not; and}! against these who do not the law has not|* been put in operation. The fees are fora man travelling on foot £2.102., and for a man. travelling with a horse £5. These amounts are not perhaps sufticiently high It has been urged that they be increas- ed ; and also that the amount of the fine be increased.
