i QUEBEC lCPl—The editor of iLaval University‘s stu ent .newspaper. Le Carabin, has re- signed in a row over an article concerning the royal commis- sion investigating the trial and execution of Wilbert Coffin.

The General Association of Laval Students. which has fi- nancial control over the paper. said it wanted a retraction of the article. which dealt with the financial problems of Jacques Hebert. author of a book which said Coffin was nol guilty of the murders for which he was hanged.

The book resulted in a royal commission. under Mr. Justice Roger Brossard.

Jean Bazin. president of the students' association. said the article cast doubts on the im- partiality of Mr. Justice Bros- sard.

Claude Beauchamp. third- year sociology student who was editor of the weekly paper. said the article did notcasl any doubts on the judge.

He said he and the five mem. bers of the paper's ard re signed rather than print a re- traction at the order of the stu- dents‘ association.
