The Taxationistse’ Platform.

To the Editor of the Examiner,

Sir,—lIt is with gre reluctance that the Opposition have been compelled to announce anything in the shape of a plat- form. They have, however, given utter- ances to toeir determination to re enact the Assessment Law of 1877, and to abolish Statute Labor, and thereby compel every pocr man in the country to pay cash, in place of performing his road work. They are resolved to aphold an expenditure of $3,090 a year by opposing the abolition of the Legislative Council.

They have also announced their inten- tion, in the words of one of their fore- most leadera—the notorious W. D. Stewart —that if they get into power they will ‘* clean out the Liberal Conservatives who are officials under the present Govern- ment.”

This plank in the Opp sition platform indicates that some only of the ‘ officials” under the present Government are Liberal- Conservatives. This rule shou!d work both ways, and as the election on Monday next will be by open voting, the present Govern- ment will see how “ officials’ will vote, both in town and country.
