We now leave it for a discerning public to judge whose ‘‘ assertions and insinuations wil! not bear investigation.”” Why should Rev. Mr. McLennan pass by the guilty Argus and silently self-convicted Mr. Harper as uncen- surable, and even adroitly, as far as he dare, come to his erring parishioner’s rescue, while he, himself, misrepresenting my words takin» his part, indignantly declares that himself is inneceut of what only the other is blamed by the public and praised in the Argus. Mr. MsLennan claims as his right to be “the best exponent of” his ‘‘own views,” yet he denies me the same right, by himself falsely and unnaturally interpreting mine, and then condemning me by his own ipse dizit. But “it isno new thing to fiud’ the conduct o! our Rev. friend in his going eut of his way to have a fling at me—‘‘ such as will not bear investigation,” especially his excommunicat- ing me from the Lord’a Table in his church, at the suggestion of ‘‘ hateful politicians,” and condemning me without cause and ut- heard, contrary to all law of ecclesiastical anc civil courts and secieties—Jewish, Christian Mahommedan and heathen, civilized ani serai-barbarous throughout the world—ancient or modern. Still, he prefessea to eschew ‘* hateful politics !”
