Vervon River Annuat TemPerance Pesrivar,—This interesting festival took place according to announcement, at the sequestered Orchard of Brownston. After Tea, the Rev. Mr. Calloway occupied the Chair, and the Meeting was addressed by J. B. Cooper, Esq., and Mr. John J. Pippy, of Charlottetown, Williain Sander- son, Usq., of Georgetown, Mr, Archibald M‘Neill, of Vernon River, and others. The addresses were highly interesting aod instructive, and were listened to with sne deepest attention. ‘The meeting was also enlivened by singing some apprapri- ate Temperance melodies, &c.

The attendance was numerous and highly reapectable, and the proceedings were eminently calculated to dissemin- ate the principles of Total Abstipence throughout the community.— Gaz.

On the 10th inst., from the Shipyard of Benj. Davies, Esq., a faithfully built Barque, of 306 tons, N. m., called the * Esser.”

THE American Art Union.

‘\HIS UNION was incorporated by the Legislature of New York, in 1840, for the promotion of the Fine Arts.

On the 20th December next there wiil be distributed by Lot,io Subscribers, several hun- dred choice PAINTINGS, BUSTS, and other Works of Art, some of which are extremely costly.

A Sabscriber of Five Dollars is a Member for the year, and is entitled to all the privi- leges of the Union—-which are as fullows:

Ist. Every Member receives a copy of a large and costly Original Engraving.

2d. He is also entitled to an Annual Report of the Transactions, &c., ef the Union.

3d. He also receives monthly, the “ Bur- LeTIN.” ‘This ig a publication of 16 pages, quarto, of 3 columns each, with a beautiful engraving.

4th. He has likewise the opportunity of obtaining atthe annual Distribution in becem- ber, by Lot, a Paintingof great value, or other Work of Art.
