It was John Dionisi’s day at MacAdam Field as he led the Panthers to a convincing 23-0 thrashing of the powerful Dalhousie Tigers. The Panthers controlled the play althrough the game which was played in a driving rain that turned the field into a mudbath.

, The U.P.E.I. basketball team is engaged in a series of exhibition games at various high sch- ools on the Island.

The format for each visit will consist of an inter-squad game, with various clinics, and demonstrations for the benefit of the high school students. 2

Alberton on Friday, October 30 and the fol- lowing week at Athena Regional in Summer-

side.

About 250 basketball fans were on hand Monday, October 19, to see the U.P.E.I. bas— ketball team play a game with the Harlem Comedy K ings. This team tours the Maritimes each autumn and engages in shenanigans of a most hilarious sort. The score ended up 99-91 in favour of the Kings.

HOCKEY

Aspirants to the U.P.E.I. hockey team have now been practising daily at the Malpeque rink since October 21. Before that date they were practising at the Forum. Here’s hoping that the hockey team will be a threat on the score-board both at home and away.

The Malpeque rink has been completely re- novated since last year. Among the improve- ments is the complete repainting of the inter- ior in the University colours, improved locker rooms, and the moving of the visiting team bench to the other side of the rink.

This is the first year that U.P.E.I. has com— peted in field heckey and they are hoping to make a good showing in this first endeavor.

The Athletic Department’s outdoor program is now over for the year. Playoffs in the var- ious sports are either underway or have al- ready been completed.

Other winter sports not already mentioned will start this week. Among them, curling and ski-club will both hold organization meetings this week.

The Panthers opened the scoring on a booming single by punter Mike Read. Dionisi

made the score 7-0 in favor of the Panthers when he scored on a keeper play around the

end from four yards out. Mancuso kicked

the Convert to make it 8-0.

The offense continued to roll as Gary Man- cuso kicked a 25 yard field goal to make the score read 1 1-0. Dionisi then made it 17-0 on a beautiful 25 yard run around the right end. The convert was missed.

In the fourth quarter the Panthers made the score 23—0 on a 3 yard touchdown run by half back Jack Myron. This major was set up by John Dionisi on the prettiest play of the game; he faked the handoff to Bill Ochlke drawing all Dal players to one side of the field while he carried the ball for a 65 yard gain to the Dal ten yard line.

To many fans at the game it was the best exhibition of football given by any Island team in many years. This team which has a great number of freshmen and sophomore players will be a force to reckon with in years to come.

Coaches Palor, MacLean. Kane and Lajeuneuse deserve a great deal of credit for the way they have moulded this year’s Panther football squad. Also the players deserve tremendous. credit for the way they play their hearts out in
