Italian bees and strong colonies are rare- ly if ever injured by moths

Usually closing the entrance so that only one bee can pass at a time is a good protection for a weak hive against rob- bers.

Worker bees reared in autumn may live eight or nine months and sometimes long- er, but in spring and summer they die in from 50 to 90 days.

The young bees in the hive build the comb, ventilate the hive, feed the larve, queen and drones and cap the cells; After they get older they do outside work.

Remove all surplus boxes and frames as s00N as storing ceases. The lack of fecun- dity in the queen may be due to disease, improper development or to a special race er strains.

Bees rob only at such times as the gen- eral scarcity of nectar forbids honest gains. Strong colonies are rarely molested and are almost sure to defend themselves against intruders.
