Accompanied by Lt. Col. A. W. Rogers, officer commanding 11th Reece Regiment and Captain George Holliwcll. Halifax, chief cadet training officer for Nova Scotia-P. E. 1.. Brigadier Reid in- spected the company in ranks and then took the salute on the march past held on the college grounds. The Company. led by the West Kent school No. 2) Cadet Oorps drum and bugle band. made a smart display as they performed their parade duties in close col- umn of platoons and column of route marching.

The company was by Cadet Major Bill McAndrew. while the West Kent band was under the command of bandma.st- er George Hurry. other Cadet of- ficers and. N.C.0.'s. of the company were Captain Bob Burke, 2nd in command. Lieutenants Br-lar Chandler and Bob I-Iambiy. C. S. M. Tom Scantlebury and platoon Sergeants Ian Cameron and Louis Paoli.

Chief Instructor of the Corps is Lt. col. W. J. MacDonald. while Lieutenant Robert Le-Clair. Mr. Joe Gallant and Sergeant Earl Nicholson compose the rest of the instrumentional staff for the Corps. In the absence of-Lt. Col. MacDonald. Lt. Lt-Clair accom- panied the inspecting party., The Corps is affiliated with the l'1th Reece Regiment.

Following the general inspect- ion. the Corps put on demon- strations in physical training. first nid. map reading and bren gun training. All were carried out in the College Auditorium and were conducted in a smooth and efficient manner.

One of the highlight features of the demonstrations was a special physical training display put on by the P. W. C. girls class under sergeant Instructor Earl Nichol- son. The girls put on the display in competition for a special prize donated by Strathcona Trust for the best girls P. T. demonstrat- ion in Provincial Scholastic com- petition. The girls class went through a series of exercises in an excellent display of precision drill that was a credit to themselves. their instructor and the student body they represent.

At the conclusion of the dem- onstration. Brigadier Reid made a few brief remarks. in which he congratulated the Corps on their fine showing. "Your display show- ed a. vast improvement over the Corps I inspected here two years ago." he said "and I feel that you are really headed in the right direction of becoming a crack corps. Keep up the good work."

Brigadier Reid also referred to cadet training in general and its close association with g present world conditions. "We are living under a dark cloud at the moment. and in the event that the situ- ntlon gets worse. such training as you have been getting will pre- pare you for what miirht lay ahead and will stand you in good stead. There are many skilled trades in the services today and many op- portunities, and if you should be called upon to serve, your cadet training will make it easier for you to attain a key position."

Brigadier Reid then presided over a ceremony in which he pre- sented the Strathcona Shield for marksmanship won by the P. W. C. Cadet Corps rifle team. other marksmanship awards and first aid badges and certificates. Corps Commander Maior Bill McAncl- rew received the. shield on behalf of the Corps. Other awards were as follows: Highest scorer for small bore shooting. Allison Mutch; First class rifle badges. Robert I-farnbly. Bill McAndrew and MacDonald Johnston: First aid certificatea and badges (cer- tificates in ahsentia): Gordon Mathieson. Hugh Gillespie. Bruce MacKlnley. Mermaid Farmer fatally injured I

Mr. Xfoseph Lemuel Matheson of Mermaid died in the P. E. l. Hos- pital yesterday from injuries re- ceived in an accident May :9. He was in his mth year. '

Mr. Matheson. who lived form- erly at Wheatley River. was work- ing with a son at erecting a wire fence. They were moving a strand of barbed wire across the road when a car passed and be- came entangled in it. As a result Mir. Matheson was badly injured about the legs. The injuries led to his death yesterday. survivors include a son. lluesell.

Sharp Increase In Canadian Exports This Year .

OITAWA. May 0 - (CP) - Sales of Canadian products abroad jumped sharply in the first quart- er of this year. the Bureau of Statistics reported today. Domestic exports to all coun- tries were sso9,aoo.ooo. up 25 per cent from the so4e.9oo,ooo of the first three months of 1960. The Bureau said. that, while higher prices amourvied for part of the increase in export value, there also was a gain in the vol- ume of goods sold.

For March. exports of 5290.000,- 000 were 2'7 per cent up from the &N.200,000 in Mai-':.h of last year. Increases were shown in value of shipments to the United States. United Kingdom. other Common-

America and Europe. Exports to the U. K. moved up- 1 Ward for the second successive month. reversing the downward trend of the last year. For the month alone, they went to 530,- 666,000 from 030,120,000 a year be- fore. and for the first three months of 1961 they were slid,- 2(K.000 compared with o109,i0l,000. About three-fourths of the in- crease in exports to all countries during that first three months was in shipments to the United States, which amounted to 5529.- 5Q6.000 compared with Ml4.008.- 000. All of the nine major commod- ity groups showed March increases to the U. S. excerpt chemicals and Allied products. Family Rosary Crusade Founder Speaks lrLCh'iown

Rev. Patrick Peyton. C. s.G., founder and director of the Family 305”! Clusude. addressed a large gathering of Roman Catholic clergy: and laymen assembled at the Charlottetown Hotel last night for B Preliminary dinner meeting on the Family Rosary campaign in. the Charlottetown Diocese.

His Excellency, Bishop James 303719. presided over the meeting and spoke to the gathering. other speakers were Rt. Rev. Gregory MacLellan, P.A., V. G.; Sir William MacMlllan and Mr. Melvin Mac- Quaid, Souris.

Clergy and laymen chairmen from over the forty parishes in the diocese were present. to organize for the five weeks campaign de- signed to restore the practice nf reciting the rnmily Rosary to every Catholic home in the Province.

"God has seen Canada doing: what no other country has ever done." stated Father Peyton. "He has seen her priests. doctors. law- yers. judges and leaders put back in the last half of the present cen- tury what was thrown outiin the first half - family prayer."

He told how the crusade to have the Family Rosary started in Can- ada, was commenced in the King- ston Diocese in 1948 upon the in- vitation of Bishop Kidd.

"90.000 people of that diocese pledged themselves to recite the Family Rosary." he continued. Two years later the Vicar General of that diocese stood up publicly and said that the number of his sem- inarians and nuns had been doub- led in the interim."

Father Peyton told how his work spread to the diocese of Vancou- ver. Edmonton. St. 'Boniface, through cities in the United states. Toronto. Quebec. England and now to the Maritlmes. ,

He opened his remarks by point.- ing out that the family is the basic unit of society and that only b.V holding the family together could that society he maintained.

To hold that family together, Father Peyton asked that every husband and father led the fam- ily in reciting the Rosary. '"I'hc Rosary is the answer to the enem- ies of God's home." he stated.

The success of the crusade would depend upon the work of the peo- ple in the diocese. he continued. He outlined the work that must be done in the schools and churches and for the huge rallies at Sum- merside and Chnrlottetownuvhlch he hoped would bring together from 50 to 70'; of the Catholics in the diocese.

Right Rev. G. J. 'MacLcllan in- troduced Father Peyton. I-le im- pressed upon the members the im- portance of the Family Rosary and showed them the beauty of the prayer.
