Two Fires Al Alblerfon Yesterday Exringuished

'1ii'n fires, which broke out short- lv after one o'clock yesterday at AIIIPIIOII were extinguished after coiisizlernble effort by volunteers and members of the Alberton Fire Dept. While the brigade were at- tempting to control a fire in an go by 30 workshop on the premises of lloivard Clark, they were noti- lied of a barn fire at Edgar John- ston's about half way between Elnisriale and Alberton. Several voluntfeers left for the barn fire hm no fire equipment was avail- able.

The firemen fought-a stubborn blaze for almost two hours at Clark's with the fire continually breaking out inside the walls and roof which were Insulated with shavings. Ali machines and tools in the large building were taken outside. The north wall of the work- shop was almost completely dest- royed and heavy damage was caus- ed to the roof and Interior of the building by the fire which spread from a burning pile of rubblshand grass.

Big Catches I Of Herring At Tignish

The acute shortage of herring Ior liuiting lobster traps this year it all fishing areas on Prince Ed- ward IsiaId”was relieved greatly yesterday at Tignish when over 3.000 lbs-was landed by Stephen Mrlnnis and Cloud Leclair. Th e day previous these two fishermen lsndcd approximately 10,000 pounds in nine nets.

This splendid catch, the largest appearance of herring this year, was quickly disposed off locally at 815.00 per thousand lbs.

The weekly meeting of the Sum- merside Rotary Club was held at Mulberry Lodge at noon on Tues-

day.

Rotarian Frank Daley was in charge of entertainment and had for guest speaker. Mr. Ben Beck of the Summerside High School, who showed a very interesting film on the modern equipment used. along with safety precaut- ions used in the handling of gasol- ine. It emphasized the efforts tak- en to protect the public by special schools being held for training of drivers in all safety precautions. The main feature stressed was the non-fire hazard In the proper hand- ling of gasoline.

President Vaughan Groom read an extract from the news of the Saint John Rotary Club. It stated if one visited a different Rotary Club daily for twenty-fivo years you could not cover all the clubs in the world. Rotary International really covers the world and is still growing.
