A Freetown youth, 14-year-old Howard McFarlane, son of Horace Melisa-lane. was flown from Bum- merside yesterday to Hospital at Halifax for specialized treatment. The flight was made in the after- noon by a Maritime Central Alr- ways plane.

The boy. in the Prince County Hospital for 11 days, was said to be suffering from a gangrenous appendix. Late last week, Dr. Alan Oiu-rie of Halifax came over to em- amine him and subsequently the decision was made ‘to remove him to the Victoria General Hospital at Halifax for t atment.

Former Pilot llere Returns

Mr. H. S. (Junior) Jones, form- er pilot, and later superintendent here for Canadian Airways when that company operated the Mone- ton - Summerside - Charlottetown service and since then a ferry command pilot, .1135 returned here to work with Maritime Central Airways, it, was announced last night.

Mr. Jones arrived here yester- day afternoon with a Cessna plane, purchased by M. O. A. in westzem Canada and flown here from Moose Jaw, Sask.

After leaving here about five years ‘ago Mr. Jones was superin- tendent; with Quebec Airways and later joined the Ferry Command, taking aircraft overseas across the Atlantic. Before returning to Can- ada six months ago he was serv- ing with British Overseas Air- ways, and was flying between England, Portugal and Africa.

Capt. Burke said that Maritime Central Airways was very pleased to secure the services of Mr, Jones. He was a valuable asset as he was well acquainted with local flying conditions.
