This is being written on Friday as we travel to "for— eign parts" tomorrow for the weekend hockey games &’ will not be'back in time to make Rick WillisL deadline of earlyASunday. Besides that we suspect that this being the last trip of the year, we may»be too"TIRED" to write intelligently... I please do not wonder "What's new?"
As a consefiuence of having
no games to refer to, we think it might be a good time to look back at the past hockey seaSOn & try to appraise the situation.’We ‘ admired_Jack Kane's refusal,“ on a recent radio interview, to make any excuses. He
said games are won or'lost on the ice & that teams make their own luck. We must concede that this may be
the proper attitude but, at the same time, we can't
help wondering about the games we lost that we could have won if only a few breaks had come our way. We started off the season with Memorial ... we outscored/them in
two games 14-6 but had to settle for a split. 0n the scores we should have won both. We then lost games
to Dalhousie & Acadia§..
no excuses abdut those. We lost to Moncton in a game :that we led for 59 minutes ‘& 55 seconds. In retrospect; we'd like to claim that
one. We lost to SMU-in a game in which we led with
19 seconds to go. We'd like that one. We lost to St. F.X. 9—3 ... we'll let
that one go. We lost to Dal & St F.X. in overtime in games in which we had the better of the play all thr-‘ Ough. We'd like those two. We lost to SMU in a game_
in which they scored THREE SHORTHANDED goals. (Hermie MaCNeil says Jack erred in Hot reverting to football. rules and declining the Penalties) We'd like that 0% back. We lost to St.

Thomas in a game in which
we outclassed eyeryone but the goalkeeper. We'd like \ that one too. Up to the
time of writing then we
have lost three games that seemed out of reach...
Although the standings ,don't show how close the PanthErs came to being a real contender for top hon- ours Panther fans should realize that we, on our record, have'great potential for next year. Certainly we have a better team than the redord indicates...even on the fact that it took‘ teams longer to beat us...- FOUR overtime losseslllll .We think Jack has a real ~ good nucleus of players ’ to build neXt year's winner ... let's look forward to an argument this time next year about whether the play— offs should be in the EEEI icebox or the Charlottetown Forum. f ’ ’
Our basketball Panthers are off to Newfoundland for what should be good tune- up games before they take on SMU next Friday night in the Halifax Forum in the first contestvof the playoffs. We were encouraged by Art Laffinls reaction' when we tried to kid him

intercession (if you don't. know who St Jude is...look him up)... Art assured me that the Panthers would win on their merit & had. no fear of the team rated #2 nationally ... we, after his assurance, hope to be on hand & to see the Acadia— UPEI final! Art pointed out that the most players any team can put on the basket-
ball court is five and he does not figure UPEl~will be a bunch of Patsies for any team. We hope a consid—‘
