A Wonderful Career.

Col. George W. Williams, the colored ralor of Ohio., late of Boston and later
New York, is here, writes a Wash ston correspondent to the Indian lis Sentinel. Williamsis an _ inter-
sing character. A few years ago he sdusted from an eastern college. nt to Cincinnati, studied law with .ifunso Taft, and about 1878 wes levted to the Legislature. He was quent, and, being the only colored cinber, attracted not a little attention. is is of medium size, slight build, pro- bably 38 years old, wears a mustache, is rather handsome, of a ¢ ypper_ color, lresses well and bears himself with dignity. At the Legislature he be- came rather intimate with Fleischmann, the great banker of Cincinnati, who was aiso'a member. Fleischmann is very wealthy, had a great deal of busi- nes#, sud employed Williams to act ag his Seeretary. Williams has much ubility, and bas great energy. He wrote au history of the colored race—two volumes. It was good. Heshowed it to Gov. Foster, of Ohio. and the latter was 80 racinated with it,that he advane- ed $5,000, it is said, to publish the books. Tue secoad volume is in press. From Ohio, Williams drifted east. He claimed to practice law in Boston and New York. He never made apy | money, so far as his acquaintances could ee, yet he always had plenty ofit. He made trips to the foreign countries, and with letiers fromthe President, Seere- tary Of State and other distinguished Americans, he was received by the Kings and principal rulers of the globe. Ho waslionized. Returning here he repiesented himself as being inter ested in opening the Congo country.
