APRIL MEETING REPORT. Dr Ken MacKay of the Institute of Man and Resources recounted some difficulties and dispelled some myths associated with the Ark. Opened in 1976, it presently employs a staff of nine in winter and close to twenty in summer.

The Ark is one of the first passively powered solar buildings. The greenhouse has been one of the more seccessful undertakings and is now heated all winter by solar heat, obtained from a conbination of winter sun and heat stored during fall in

rock storage beds. Other areas of ongoing research include biological control of greenhouse insect parasites, composting techniques, plant culture by hydroponics, and fish production in indoor tanks. Ark personnel are willing to give advice and information to anyone interested in any of these areas.

CLEAN—UP DAY. Set aside Saturday, May 24 to , help beautify our Island by doing your part to clean up the array of trash which accumulates on roadsides, ditches and lawns each winter. those members who are early risers, plan to be at the Dairy Centre (Research Station) off the Hurry Road at 7:00 a.m. on May 20th for a walk through the woods and farmland. On Thursday, May 22nd, members are inVited to participate in a walk through Strath~ Hm '_ gartney Park. ‘Meet at the Park entrance {yLEW at 6:30 p.m. Both walks are open to the general public as well as to members of the Natural History Society.

a pair of Bushnell binoculars, donated by Taylor's Jewellers Ltd., in recognition of his efforts. The logo is divided into four parts representing the components of nature; earth, water, air, and the flora and fauna.
