Sr. Patrick's Day.—The celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, which takes place on Mon- day, the 17th inst., promises to surpass that of previous years. Kvery preparation is being made to add to its success. The Benevolent {:ish Society, preceded by the military and St. Dunstan’s College bands, will march in procession to St. Dunstan’s Cathedral, where divine service will be held, and a sermon suit- able for the oceasion will be preached by the Rev. P. A. McElmeel. A concert will be held in the evening, for which a splendid pro- gramme has been prepared, which appears in another columa.

A Svocessrut Sorrer.—Prof. Friese and his pupils gave a very pleasing musical aod literary soiree in their class-room over Miller tros. store last evening. The programme was made up of vocal and instiumental solos, choruser, readings, etc. Among those taking vart were Mrs. A. A. McLean, Mrs. Brace, Miss Brown, the Misses Hyde, Mr. W. 5. Stewart, Mr. A. Bruce, Captain D. Stewart, Prof. Tanton and others. ‘The different num- bers on the programme were carried out in a manner reflecting the highest credit upon pupils and tutor. There was a large number of guests present.

- A New Departore.—The Island Farm- er says: The Summerside Presbyterian Church has taken a new departure this year. They have issued a pamphlet ¢on- taining some 20 pages, which contains a re- port of the work of the congregation for the year 1889. From it we learn that the receipts from all sources for the past year were $3,298.09, and the total expenditure, $3,651.89, which leaves a deficit of $353. 30. This is the result, however, mainly of the large outlay upon the church edifice, in- curred during the year. The pamphlet also contains an ‘ in memoriam’ page upon which are the names of all those who died during the year.

Anoruer Frre.--We regret very much to learn that the large building on Helland Cove Farm, Rocky Point, used as 4 grain- ery, cow stable and implement house, was destroyed by fire last night, about eleven o'clock. All the cattle in that portion of the building used as a stable were released, with the exception of the pure-bred Jersey bull, ** Benbow” and the pure-bred Berk- shire sow ** Lady Holland,” with a three- weeks’-old litter. These were cremated. All the farming implements, including @ new Toronto Binder, were destroyed, 4s was alsoa large quantity of wheat and oats. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Were it not for the prompt assistance ren- dered by some of the neighbors who were early on the scene, the fire would likely have spread to the dwelling house and other buildings in the neighborhood. The building destroyed was insured in the Glasgow and Londen Insurance Company, represented by bir. F. WwW. Hyndman, for $300; and the ordinary contents of the building in the seme

In conclusion, he condemned the imperial federation scheme as it stood at present. He was in favor of the abstract idea, but so far no feasible plan had _ been proposed, and until it were he could not support it.

A City Flooded. New Orveans, March 13.

At 1 p. m. at Poydras Street, water com menced running over the levee, and all the low places in the vicinity were soon flood- ed. The streets about the Sugar Exchange are flooded. At 3.30 p. m., the guage was sixteen feet, six inches, above high water mark in former years. A large part of the city below Canal Street is nearly submerg- ed. The indications are that the entire business portion of the city will be covered with water before morning.
