{ started in business by bringing 300 head of Shorihorn cattle from Kentucky and crossing them with the pure Spanish Longhorn breed. This united the heavy qualities of the former stock with the power and activity of the “rustlers,” and the result has been as satisfactory as could be desired. Few people understand how the business can be so profitable. The fact is that it not only gives a handsome dividend, but the herd doubles every three years. The English and Scotch are mvesting a great deal of capital, finding that it pays them 10 per cent. interest.

The Late Prince Imperial.
The Prince of Wales, as previously an- nounced in our despatches on the 12th inst., unveiled the statue at the royal mulitary academy at Woolwich, which was erected to the memory of the Freneh Prince | mperial by the subscriptions of 25,000 officers and men of the British army at a cost of £4,510. The Prince of Wales was accompanied by his two sons and by the Dukes of Edin- burgh and Cambridge. The (Queen sent two wreaths. Gen. Lord Wolseley, Prince Lucien Bonapart, the Duc de Bassano, and a large ard distinguished company were
resent. In his remarks, the Prince of Vales said —‘'It is obvious that this short ceremony is not a pelitical ene in any sense of the word. We are inangurating a monument to the memory of a young anc gallant prince who fell fighting for the Queen of England.” After tracing the career of the prince imperial to the time of bis death, the Prince of Wales concluded : ** His virtues, his blameless life, his courage, his obedience to others, will always prove a bright example to the cadets educated at Woolwich who, when they gaze on the statute ingaugurated to-day, will see the features of the young and brave prince who died with his face to the foe."’ The Prince of Wales afterward distributed the Egypt- tian medals to the patients in the Herbert Hospital.

Political interest is now largely centred ou the relations of England and France. The isolation of the latter is complete. Gambetta’s death is already influencing affairs for the advantage of England, since, in apite of their chagria, both the French preas and Government recognise the futility of opposing Englind. French obstinacy is again defeating ivself. By refusing a joint military intervention, France excluded her- self from the right of aiding im the settle- ment. By declining the presidency of the Reform Debt Commission, which was sug- gested by England, she permits Englishmen to control all the finances of Egypt.
