COMING EVENTS

UP WEST. Reserve Saturday, October 2 for our annual outing to the beautiful Tyne Valley area. Hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Geoff Robinson, we will be visiting the special natural places up west. Meet in Charlottetown at the YMCA at 9:00 A.M. or at the Robinson's (next to the bridge in Tyne Valley) at 10:30 A.M. Bring a lunch, water- proof footwear, binoculars, field guides, etc.

OCTOBER MEETING. The first fall meeting of the Natural History Soc1ety Will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at 8:00 P.M. on the

third floor of the Provincial Health Building. Speaker for the evening is Macrae Morse, who will describe his summer's involvement in the monitoring and protection of the Piping Plover population in P.E.I. National Park. This is an issue in which the P.E.I. Natural History Society has been active, so should be of particular interest to members. Come, and bring a friend.

NOVEMBER MEETING. The second meeting of the season is scheduled for November 2 at 8:00 P.M. in the Provincial Health Building.

Sue Stephenson will talk and show slides about her summer's experiences at LaPerouse Bay in Northern Manitoba, where she was involved in a research project on Willow Ptarmigan. Her presenta- tion will also describe the snow goose and phalarope research being conducted at the LaPerouse field station.

CNF MEETS. Atlantic Region Canadian Nature Federation members meet October 23 in Sackville, N.B. Forest management, offshore develop- ment and toxic waste are prime topics for discussion, and all members are invited to share their views.

Sackville is the site of the 1983 CNF annual meeting, and local conference organizers would also like to meet with NHS members

to exchange ideas on the August convention. Anyone needing transporta- tion to the Sackville meeting should contact CNF Director, Winston Johnston at 894-4965, or at the October meeting.

ISLAND NATURE TRUST MEMBERSHIP DRIVE. The 1982-83 Membership Drive for the Island Nature Trust is currently underway. The Trust is continuing its efforts to acquire and/or protect natural areas

on the Island. The recently acquired Deroche Pond properties urgently need management to ensure the conservation of this

natural area which is of National significance. For more informa- tion on the Trust, you may obtain a complimentary copy of their
