The new city scales, which have been installed in the scale house on Market Square, will be ready for public use tomorrow morning. Tllc new scales are of the latest auto truck tyne. made by Fairbanks. Morse Co., and have a capacity of 49.000 pounds, although rated at twenty tons.

The new scales required a much larger pit than dld the set formerly used. The present pit is 24 feet long. 9 feet wide. and d feet deep. "Fire scales are an all-steel construction, the planking for the deck being the only wood used. .

The scales are built on the prin- ciple oi a railway track scales. that is, in sections. each section taking nearly the capacity of the whole; thus permitting oi the more accur- ate weighing of goods in trucks. the greater part. _of the weight of wilicil is on the rear wheels. it is the tyne of motor truck scales that practically all cities are installing for public use, and is one of the largest oi the type in the Maritime Provinces. The city oi St. John has one of the same capacity. No loose weights are re- quired, as all theweighing is done
