West Superior, Wis., July 16.—During a cyclone here this afternoon a number of buildings were blown down, including a hotel in course of construction. Of forty workmen in the building several were killed and others badly hurt.
TERREBONNE, July 16.—Jules Belanger, a farmer at St. Janvier, 26 years of age, was struck by lightning and killed while in a field yesterday. A big hotel at Knowl- ton, Que., was also struck, but although 26 boarders were in the house at the time no one was injured.
Montreat, daly 16.—Daniel Thelan, 54 years of age, of Gritfintown, is being sued for $10,000 for breach of promise by Julia Shea, 24 years of age, of the same quarter of the city, who allegee that the fickle Daniel has courted her for five yeare past. The dis- appointed maiden wants to bring Daniel to judgment.

Grail Tarte, the would- be purifier of Canadian politics, admitted to Whelan, Lemieux and others, that he received half of the ten thousand dollars which Pacaud blackmailed out of the con- tractor in question.

Lonpon, July 16.—Earl Spencer, [formerly Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in a speech at Royston yesterday, declared the policy of the Liberals in favor of home rule for Ireland was at present stronger than ever. The cry of the Conservatives that home rule was dead was utterly taise. It wasa living principle and as popular in English constituencies now as before disaster overtook the Parnellites. He declared home rule would be the first proposal to be introduced in the next Liberal parliament.
Wrvona, Minn., July 16.—Twelve thousand nine hundred dollars in bills have been found in a piano stool among the effects of Lena Weinberg, the house-keeper of the old Huff house, who committeed suicide two years ago. Eighteeu months ago $12,000 were found in some false-bottomed trunks. The stool was ingeniously fixed to hold money without suspicion. The find was made by the administrator. The belief is the money was stolen, as she handled the funds of the
