‘“‘Facrs are stubborn things,” as the (rit organs are finding out. The chief organ de- clared that no sane farmer would take advantage of the offer of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company in the matter of their lands; that, practically on account of the onerous conditions attached to the transfer of its lands by the syndicate, the lands were out ef the market. The actual facts are, that an average of fifteen quarter sections, or 2,400 acres, a day were actually disposed of by the company during the month of November. And this is only the beginning. It is, compared with what will be, omly the day of small and feeble things. The Geverament surveyors will soon be taxed to their utmost to keep up with the demand.—Teronto Mail.

Tue Scorr Acr.—According to the St John Telegraph, this is how they do business in Sussex : Tames Byrne, John Whelan and Joseph R. Leggett were, om the 15th, sum- moned before the Stipendiary Magistrate, Mr. Wallace, for a breach of the Scott Act. The case was opened, and the barrister for the defence asks the question: ‘Is not the Mag istrate a witness in the case?” His Honor replied in the affirmative, and the case went by the board. The same parties were then surnmoned before two}. P.’s, Messrs, Blanchard and Farrar. On commencing the case, those “Justices ” found they had been subpcenaed to give evidence in the matter also. They, therefore, called in other Justices to act on the case, who will, doubtkss, be subpcenaed, and thus the farce will go on.
