18 to Jan. 3 - This will be the 99th Christmas Bird count period. The Society will feature two registered counts and one unregistered counts during this period (seegpap below). The National Park Count will open the set on Saturday, December 19th followed by the Hillsborough River Count on Sunday December 27th and then the Montague Count on Saturday,

January 2nd. The coordinator for the National Park and Hillsborough Counts is Dan McAskill (569-4351) while Gary Schneider (583-3068) will coordinate the Montague Count.

5 - Annual meeting and election of officers for the Natural History Society starting at 7:30 pm at the Farm Centre on University Avenue. Dan McAskill will speak on rare bird sightings on P.E.I. during the past 7 years and new species that might be anticipated.

26 — The Pesticides Advisory Committee of the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry will receive representations on any matter concerning pesticide use on P.E.I. Written presentations or verbal presentations based on a written document will be received by the Committee. There will be afternoon and evening meetings at the Howard Johnston Dutch Inn in North River. Contact Teresa Mellish at 902—368-5605 to register your intent to submit a brief and to obtain a time slot to meet with the Committee. ”

13 - Society field trip starting at 10 am at the Dalvay Interpretive Centre. Jessie Francis will be our leader and the walk will feature snowshoeing and looking for animal tracks.

19 to 22 - 2nd Annual Backyard Bird Count sponsored by the Audubon Society and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
