The Minister of Customs has decided that the dogs imported into Canada, even for use or the Yukon trails, must pay a duty of 26 per cent. Earl Russell, freed from his divorce court troubles, is agitating the “one man one bath” questions in British work- houses. At Maidenhead, the scene of the recent typhoid fever outbreak, where the earl is one of the board of guardians, he discovered that they had washed 46 tramps in six bathfuls of water. With some difficulty he put through a proposal touse the same water for’ only two or three persons, one overseer objecting that “he did not know when they were go- ing to stop giving luxuries to tramps, ”

Heavy Porxer.- -Mr Joseph Macdonald, senior, of Crapaud, killed a porker on Wednesday, January 12th, which tipped the ecale at 416 lbs. The age of the porker was 8 months and 6 days. If any other Lot inthe province can beat this Mr. O. B. Wadmin will forward the winner five pounds of pure candy.

A Warnixc to Orners.—The death occurred at St. John, N. B., on Tuesday of Mary Howe, eldest daughter of the late Arthur Howe and grand-daughter of Poat- master Howe, who died a few days ago. Death was due to blood poisoning, result~ ing from the ecratch of a pet cat on a cold sore on the lip. Miss Howe was tweaty years of age.

Pork Packinc Esrasiisament.—The speakers at the meeting in North Bedeque yesterday afternoon were all favorable to a move beng at once madein the matter of instituting a pork-packiug establisment in Prince County. The epinion was ex- pressed that even ifa governmeut grant were not obtained the farmers could swing the institution. The meeting was under the auspices of the Farmers’ and Dairy- men’s Association, and Mr. Charles Craig, of Middleton, president of that organiza- tion, presided.
