to directing. I’m not really scared, though... it’s a great play and I have great people helping me behind the scenes, so as long as we work hard, it should come off really well.”

Auditions for the show were held last week, but the society is always looking for people to help out with props, set, lighting, costumes, and construction. Anyone wishing to participate can e-mail upei_theatre@hotmail.com.

Clark stated that experience is not a prerequisite for joining the society, or even helping out with productions.

“Anyone can be a part of the society. You don’t need to have any experience at all. Some of the best people involved never had a second of experience before they started. It’s always a lot of fun, and a great way to meet a lot of people.”

Clark’s own experience with the club has been quite varied. If anything, she says, one will never have the same experience twice.

“As for my experiences with the society, I’ve been dressed in everything from a push-up bra and miniskirt to a cardigan and old-lady shoes. If nothing else, it’s always different!”

Lysistrata will be performed in the Duffy Amphitheatre November 17, 18, and 19th. Exact time and prices will be announced later.

What can’t you put in a deep fryer? Well, you can’t put anything into a deep fryer unless you make it fit and to be sure, it will then probably maybe taste good, yah? By the way if you haven’t noticed, you can even, er, stuff an entire culture inside one of those fantastic little machines...

BA is what one might call a musical comedian on wheels, describing himself on stage as being something akin to the dead metaphor of jokes, where it’s the straight-ahead

humorous action of self-deprecation and

celebrating it... what’s the tour called again? Something about beating a dead horse?

BA often ends songs suddenly halfway through, cursing himself and his skills and asking the crowd why. He gives the feeling that if the crowd were not there to begin with, he might be jabbering on to himself in this manner anyway. I would like to highlight as well, that while such disastrous show- stopping mistakes are usually a scene most bands would like to try and avoid, with Ba Johnston it’s actually a thoroughly welcome and integral part of the act. In fact, it’s often his stories and diatribes at these little junctures and in between songs which really make the audience listen, laugh, and then listen once again - quite attentively - to the damn hilarious lyrics of his songs. BA’s cd is entitled “My Heart is a Blinking Nintendo” and you can look for a review in the next edition of The Cadre. Before ending however, | would like to add that when BA and Pelly left there were three specific places in which they wanted to stop before they left the island to continue their tour: Cash Converters (cheap, shitty keyboards), the Stompin’ Tom Connors Museum (ballads of ketchup and potatoes), and then out to sea to kiss the lobster and float away on the wings of a million soggy angels, down down down through the old burning ring of fire in Mt. Stewart, and then up up up and over the rainbow (also in Mt. Stewart) for their next stop in Halifax, NS. But if you missed this show don’t kick yourself too hard: BA Johnston will soon be back in November, and everyone alive that’s not dead will definitely want to make sure they make this show unless they’re actually not alive, but dead.
