-Mrs. Ferdinand Gallant. presi- dent of the branch of St. Anthony's Society at Tignish Shore and Mrs. Edmond Gaudet. secretary of the same branch, attended the annual convention which was held at Eg- mont Bay on Sunday. July 33. They were. accompanied by Mr. Emile Gallant, who was a delegate for the st. Felix Branch. Mr. John L. Rich- ard. who represented the branch of st. Peter and st. Paul. Mrs. sylvere Chiasson and Mrs. Julie Poitier, who were delegates for the Leoviile Branch. ,

-The death occurred. at Tig- nish on Wednesday morning, July 12. of Mrs. Jeanne Gaudet in her seventy-fifth year. The late Mrs. Gaudet was a woman of true Christian spirit: her charity and generosity knew no bounds, her cheerful and pleasant manner en- deared her to both old and young alike. and countless are the ones left to mourn the loss of a dear friend. Mrs. Gaudet is survived by one daughter. Mary. (Mrs. John Arsenault). with whom she lived and who tenderly and lovingly cared for and nursed her mother through her last illness. Mrs. Gaudet was a staunch member of the Roman Catholic Church and was until two months previous to her death, faithful to all church duties and always ready to help in any work which was for the betterment of the church or com- munity. During her illness. she was hequentl, visited by her pas- tor, Reverend J. A. MacDonald. and his curate. Reverend L. B. Dooley and was comforted by re- ceiving the Sacraments of the church. she was a charter mem- ber of the Catholic Womenta Ian- gue. which was formed in the par- iah twenty-eight years ago. and during that time took a most ac- tive part in the League wcrk. On the morning of her funeral. her sister members of the C. W. L. marched in procession after the mourners from her home to the church and attended Mass in a body. A Requiem High Man was sung by Reverend J. A. MacDon- aid, auiated by the Parish choir. she was laid to seat in the ad- joining cemetery beside her hus- band and only son. Leo, who both predeceased her a number of years ago. Services at the grave were conducted by Reverend J. A. MacDonald.

STRATHROY. Ont.. July 21 - (GP)-Canada lost: two citizens every day through drowning in 1948. Health Minister Martin said tonight in an address prepared for delivery at the opening of a service club (Lions) swimming pool here.

He said 724 Canadians drowned during the year. though even this figure was a. considerable im- provement over previous years.

On Wednesday afternoon the staffs of R. T. Holman co. Ltd. stores in Charlottetown and summer-side. gathered at Cape Traverse, on the property of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lord. for the annual picnic of the fi.rm'a members.

-By one thirty in the afternoon. ov- er five hundred people. comprising the employees and their families were on hand to enjoy the hospital- ity of the management. seven bus- es and many private care provided transportation to and from the pic- nio grounds. Apparently each and every member of the staff present. go well as their guests, enjoyed every minute of the outing and a splendid card of athletic events, in which al- most everyona took part was carried out.

At five o'clock a delicious lunch. to which all did ample justice, was served by the ladies of the New lon- don and Grahams Road women's institute while well stocked canteens provided drinks for the thirsty.

First aid was under the capable supervision of Mr. Walter Duggan an: life saving. Mr. Alfred MacDon- al .

By three o'clock the various ath- letic events began and before the last race was run some very excell- ent Olymplc talent was in evidence. At six o'clock the prizes to the dif- ferent winners were presented by Mr. Robert Holman. president and general manager of the firm.

A great deal of credit for the over- all success of the days outing goes to Wally Coulson, president of stock organization and the executive, and to Dick I-ienthorn behind the mike of the sound system for his smooth running commentaries.

The tea party which was held at the Mt. Pleasant airporfin aid of the Stewart Memorial Nursing Centre was a huge success. The grand sum of seventeen hundred dollars was realized which will go towards furnishing the nursing centre. Much credit is due to the communities which helped make this tea party such a success.

The Presbyterian Young People's Society held a social evening in the form of a farewell party for Bob Perry at Mr. Stennlng Wil- liams' share on Friday evening.
