The road running through or the main road ofl Charlottetonw is, as we all know, University] Avenue. The University of Prince Edward Island is situated on this road thus the fname University Ave. The University sits on fa hill overlooking the surrounding area of :West Royalty. At the bottom of the hill on ~another road is Charlottetown Rural High School. These dwellings of education are just a few steps away from each other. It seems a logical step to travel this short distance from grade twelve to first year at U.P.E.I. In the spring at the Rural it' often heard: "Hey, where are you going nex1 year?" "I guess I'm going up the hill (to

is only right that you should question and ponderand think, good and long and hard at the whole situation for it isran important decision; it is your future and you are thew one that,has to make it count- "m At the'Shd of grade twelve each person has to decide what the future will hold for them; what he or she will do with his life. Until this time we are dependent on others. Now 'it is ourselves on whom we must depend. When thinking of the future, we ask and try to decide what our life's work will be. ‘ For our society is based on each person working for a living if he is able. We have to work to survive. The question is’ what is it we want to do while we are sur- viving? What kind of job best suits us? What do we do well and enjoy doing? Where do our interests lie? Can we get a job in this area and what does it take: what are the qualifications? Do we need a degree,

a special course or is grade twelve suf- ficent?. These are hard questions to ask / and harder still to answer but sometime _

we must all eventually answer them. At some point the grade twelve student mus

decide whether or not he will go to Univer-' sity.’ Many will go but others won't. They‘ will choose to go directly into the work force. These people miss out on a valuable experience-by not trying out University. University is very rewarding as you get to know yourself and others better. Also it ' is very rewarding personally to be able to know that you can handle uniVersity life. The person who chooses not to take the path to Vniversity misses out. in store for them, what they should do. Univer- sity helps set a person straight and helps them decide. A person may decide after a year or so of University that it's not for them. Nothing is lost for in the long run they have gained for the experiences obtained will always be valued.
