Dr. Michael Winstanley. in

an article on the science page of the Manchester Guardian. brewed the controversy a few .days ago. He wrote that beer was being watered in the so- calied baptizing process by substituting about a bucket of water for a bucket of beer in a 36-gailon barrel. 1 Worse still, Winstanley said 2 that when a pub-keeper pulls the pump and lets the beer overflow the glass in a gen- erous gesture. he isn't being generous at all.

What he‘s doing is feeding it into a drain. or “econo- mizer." which takes it back to the barrel—to be sold again. This. said Winstanley. could be dangerous to health in the pickup of germs.

Federal fisheries officers in various parts of the province have reported seal being killed by men going out on the ice from shore or catching them in nets. About 500 seals were seen last week in Green Bay. i At Fogo, also on the north- east coast, several seals were seen in the harbor. Fogo lands- men have killcd some. Thirty were taken in nets at Twillin- gate. near Fogo.
