A correspondent of the ‘** Echo” says :— ‘* Nothing is more common in these days of severe weather than to see persons taking spirits, beer, etc., to keep out the cold. To those whose knowle dge of physiology is so limited as not to be aware that nutritious food and warm clothing are the best speci- fics against the cold, perhaps the following remarks of DeQuincy may be of service :— ‘* Plato walhaan one effect which invariably follows from the addiction to strong liquors,

Lost Sight Restored by Prayer.

Wiimineron, Del., Feb. 5.-——Miss Min- nie Lombard, nineteen years old, residing on Jefferson street, this city, who has been blind for two years has recovered her sight ina most remarkable manner. She was afflicted with Typhoid fever, and on her re- covery she gradually lost her sight and be-

came tetally blind. She was given the best medical treatment, but without avail. She is amember of St. Paul’s M. HE, Church, and the Church has made her case a sub- ject of prayer. On Tuesday night last,pre- vious to retiring, Miss Lombard had been reading of Christ restoring sight to the blind and the promise ‘*‘ Whatever ye shall askin my name, believing, ye shall re- ceive,” and with a full reliance in his power and wisdom she prayed earnestly that if it be his will her own eves might be re-open- ed. She awoke with a headache. Her mother bathed her head and_ she fell asleep again. When-she awoke her sight was per- fectly restored. She is a consistent Chris- tian and naturally attributes her sudden re- covery to a special interposition of Provi- dence.
