The general trend at U.P.E.I. these days is to be as apathet— ic as possible, due in part to the fact that this is and al— ways has been the general trend on Prfnce Edward Island. But due also in part to the fact that little things are subtly

covered up by the authoritarian‘few facts and figures. Campus

Just bear with this article awhile. I want to show you just one facet of our university's authoritarian tradition; how it is and how it doesn't have to be. That facet is the mil- itary organgzation hired by our worthy tudent Union, dubbed the title Campus Pol— ice. :' X

This organization is made up of the following well known personalities on campus - some of them are even well — known because they're niceguys. Some, as in all levels of this campus are well_known because

On a campus this small, everyone should become acquainted with his (her) campus police. It may come in handy at a function you can't afford to get admitt- ance into. Your cop friend will look the other way for 30 seconds : Wendall Muttart (assistant chief), Bob DixOn, Joe Lisi, Gene Kenny, Peter Gillis, John Klub, Doc Blanchard, Lainie Landry, Peter McGregor, Marty Cole and Bdb Thompson. Of course there are many more Part-time cops and the chief can hire as he feels the need. These illustrious law abid- ing (?) policemen protect our

health and welfare at such events

as football games at other cam- Puses as well as our own. This Can only mean that they are the most efficient campus cops in the Maritimes since they have to be sent along to other un- iversities to do other campus

cOPS' jobs for them. They also fierve at all other "dry" or Wet" events on campus. For instance, there are fourteen coPS on duty everynight for three nights at our Fall Fest— ival and Winter Carnivals —

Thank God that the only consequence was that the student union gave them what they wanted. Of course we all lost a lot of money that night but that's obsolete. Think if a fire wou— ld have begun in the Barn. Peo- ple would have panicked and someone could have been killed. With the place wide Open and totally un—policed somebody could have started a real brawl, because don't forget the sec- urity police were standing behind the campus police and would also have refused to act on any emergencey. This episode is merely an example of the degree of dependability the Campus Police have.
