Queen's Canadian Fund Donations

ANIHER-ST, Sept. 3 — Through the efforts of the Maritime photo- finisherg the salvage Fund of The Maritime Professional Photograph- ers‘ Association. administered by Ronald P. Smith, has made a $50.00 contribution to the Queen's Canadian Fund. Twenty dollars is being allocated to both Nova Scot- ia and New Brunswick provincial branches while the remaining $10. is being donated to the Charlotte- town branch.

The fund was established by Highlights of the East, official monthly Journal o! the associat- ion, in January, i942, and today the organization has raised vni~ untarily among the members of th photo finishing industrv $24650 This sum has been realized en- tirely from the payment-s receiv- ed on shipments of salvaged metal film spools. Last October a sum of $75.00 was voted also.to the Queen's Canadian Fund.

Since the salvage campaign unr- inaugurated approximately foul tons oi spools have been return- ed to Toronto where they are re- finished and used again by the film manufacturer in order to keep the "snap-shot" industry functioning. During the last year 5,000 lbs. have been salvaﬂed and $135.13 has been received ' the fund. The fllrn manufacturer declared recently that the Mari- time photc-flnishers salvage eff- ort has been equal in ratio to any other section in Canada. The firm also stated that the promot. ional and publicity work being done in the interests of salvage of film spools by Highlights of the East u-as the most effective and efiicient system in Canada.

A portion of the M. P. P. A. Salvage Fund is also being used to supply the sons and daughters and former employees oi studio owners, who are serving in Can- ada or overseas. with cigarettes. chocolates and other comforts. Similarly for the past three con- secutive years the association has voted $25.00 to al in relieving those British photographers who were bombed out of their business and homes during the air-bli over England.

In the Domestic Science Divis- ion the cooking and preserves were much smaller in quantity than in previous years due prin- cipally to war time restrictions.

There was a very small showing of grains. roots and vegetables due to the late- ness of the season and to the fact that the exhibition was held at rm earlier date this year than other years. However. what were shown were very good in quality.

Supper was served by the lad- es of different Red Cross units and the entire proceeds went to the Red Cross.—S.
