Story: 1836: Mr. Pickwick, a lovable, retired city businessman, decides to see something of the world. For him, this means venturing into the countryside near London, where, with three young admirers, he encounters bolting horses, thin ice, country inns with confusing bedrooms, and courtroom drama--when he is charged by conniving lawyers with breach of promise to Marry! He refuses to pay and goes to prison!!

What happens??? An evening of merriment and gentle satire! Source: Charles Dickens’ beloved novel, Pickwick Papers, adapted for stage by two Canadian directors. Three Toronto productions by them, and several others.

including UPEI president Dr. C.W.J. Eliot. Auditions: Even as you read this, production agents are sizing you up for height, gait, voice, and that certain something that says, ‘‘oh yes, we have arole for you.’” NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. But if you have some, so much the better. Real auditions are on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 10-3, in the barn.

Rehearsals: January, February. Only central roles will need to come to full or many rehears- als up to February _ break (itself an option). There is no disguising that the two weeks before the show will be busy, or that for the evenings of the run itself and two nights before, your bod belongs to us if you sign on. PLAN FOR THIS NOW.

What’s on at the Panther Lounge

This is our last ‘‘What’s On’’ article until next semester so be sure to mark down all our important dates until the next issue of the X- Press.

This Friday’s movie pub will feature two new releases, Sylvester Stallone’s ‘‘Cliff- hanger’’ and ‘‘ Weekend at Bernies, Part 2””. It was good to see a packed lounge for last week’s movie pub. Hopefully we’ll be offering pizza at ourmovie pubs beginning in January. ‘“Wayne’s World’’ is also in the future so keep a watchful

eye on the banner in The Pit or for posters

around campus.

Thursday, December 1 6th is the big day: it’s the day we get rid of everything! We all know its real name (but we’re not allowed to use it), but we call it the ‘‘Scrooge Event’’. The ‘*Surfing Rhinos’’ will be the opening act for ‘‘Uisce Beatha (pronounced ishka Baha). We almost guarantee that everyone will love this band. All of their tunes are originals and the best way to describe them would be as a hard rock Pogues type band. The doors will open at 6:00 with the first band starting around 8:00. Come and see how low the lounge will go! Closing time will be when the coolers are emptied. Prices will drop three times during the night! So come early and stay late to see how low we’ll go!

Tickets will be going on sale for our New Year’s Eve Bash on December Sth, this Friday at the Student Union and will be on sale until Friday December 20th only! We suggest that you get your tickets early as we usually only have only a few available at the door on New Year’s Eve. If you do wait, tickets will go on sale New Year’s Eve night at 8:00 pm. Halifax band ‘Cameras in Paris’’ will be performing for the second year in a row (they also played Hallowe’en). Tickets are $8.00 and we’ll be staying open until 2:00 am. We have also started ‘‘ Hoop Happy Hour”’ whichmeans when

our basketball teams are playing at the Sports Centre all beer and shots are on for happy hour prices during and for one hour following each game.

Plans for the new year include (hopefully) MacLean & MacLean, top comedian Simon Cotter, Trooper, Terry Kelly and we’re doing our best to land Blue Rodeo and Spirit of The West, we’ll keep everyone posted.

A big thanks to the over 300 people. who showed up last Wednesday to watch the Survi- vor Series. We were the only bar in town to host the event and we expect even more for the Royal Rumble on January 22nd.

We would also like to welcome our newest staffmembers: Risa Daniels (all the way from California) is our newest bartender; while Arlene Gallant, Natalie Bulger, Renee Gallant and Shelley Simmons are on door and coat check; and our four newest CP’s are Lori Curley, Tammy Rafuse, Andrea Pushka, and John Trainor.

Home Ec Happenings The latest news from the Home Ec Society

Thank you to all those who donated money or food to the Upper Room. Even though our campaign is over, the Upper Room is still looking for donations of any type.

Just a reminder to all students in Home Ec: the staff is putting on their annual Christmas party for us on December 7 at noon. We will be exchanging gifts with amaximum price of three dollars. This is optional. The Home Economics Society Christmas Party will be on December 5 starting around 4 pm. We are planning to go bowling and then back to Sue Ann’s for Chinese food. The sign-up sheet is in the Lounge. Our Jackets should be in by the end of the week- that is, if the bookstore doesn’t mess things up again.

On Thursday, November 25, 1993, the Engi- neering Society had their annual fall Pub Crawl. There was a good turnout with nine teams with each team having five members. Everyone had plenty of team SPIRITs. An astronomical phe- nomenon was observed the night of the pub crawl: there were several new “‘moons’’ sighted on Kent Street. The recovery rates were not very speedy for some people, as was witnessed in Strengths class- right, Ron?

This year the engineers have’an intramural hockey team. We would like people to come to the games to support the team. We need fans, folks!
