Montague Fire Dept. Monthly Meeting Held

,.'At the regular monthly meet- mg of the Montague Fire Depart- ment held in the town hall last night, it was decided by unam- mous voto that all membe of the department he requested to take . first aid course. The suggestion ".5 made by Gilbert Clements, who stated that a knowledge of first aid fundamentals was vital to the members of the department because lives can be saved by first gm, properly and quickly adminis- Lered at the scene of a fire.

Mr. Clements went on to say that. he and fellow fireman. John Shaw. would be happy to instruct s first aid class made up of fire- men and anyone else who might be interested in it, and that the renumeration he would receive for it from the Red Cram. would he used to purchase a respirator for the department. Mr. Clements and Mr. Shaw are both qualified instructors.

A number of reports were heard. Ralph Beck reported that three new insurance policies were re- ceived by his committee and com- plete details of these will be brought to the next meeting for close study.

Gilbert Clements reported that sfter surveying the project he es- timated that 7,000 ft. of wire would be needed to install alarm bells in the individual homes of the firemen. and that he would re- port on an estimated cost of the wire at the next meeting.

It was also reported that run- berized pliers had been purchased and Fred Vuozzds suggestion that rubber mitts. rope. and easily portlible hand lights were needed by the department was approved by vote and a committee was ap- pointed to look alter the matter.

Following he meeting films on fire fighting and fire precautions were shown by Claude Nicholson.

..'A special meeting of the Mont- ague Town Council was held yes- terday afternoon. presided over by Mayor Bruce Yeo. were present.

The financial program for the street paving project was discussed at considerable length. after which further discussion ensued regard- ma the sidewalk constguction pro- gram.

It was announced by the chair- man of the finance committee. 8. S. Hessian. that the-financial statement was being prepared and would be in the hands of the gen- eral public as soon as possible. l

In an interview with the mayo? and councillors following themeet- ing it was learned that the mayor and all present councillors would re-nominate for oflice again today.

The price of potatoes is reported as going up last week and, strangely enough, farmers say we have none cold. when the price was low city stores were asking sixty cents per pack last week for opuds. One farmer, said he had. not enough for his own use now.

City service men have installed a number of new heating units in this vicinity in the past two weeks. Th! days of the old stoves have gone. Wood is about the thing of the past now as one old timer in- iormed us last week while men were installing his furnace: "When I was a lad seventy years ago. we were living in a forest right here. Now you cant get a clothes line Dole."

We learn with regret of the con- tinued illness of Mr. Fred Mosher at his adopted home in Savage Harbor. An old Navy veteran. Fred- die has had much illness since his navy days. Mr..James Arnold, was in the some members of his family reside. Like several others of the Govem- ment dredge crews. his work has been stopped for the winter months. Mr. Arnold is a world war one vet- eran with ode arm severely shat- tered. lle has served on the dredge for many years now.
