Training Girls.

Did girls get from childhord — the the same business training as boys, and were it clearly understood in all families that it is not a credit but a discredit for women to be idle, to hang helpless oo the men instead of doing their own work, and, if necessary, earning their own living, I believe society would be not the worse but the better for the change. Men would find out that the more they elevate women the greater use they get outof them. If instead of a man working himaself to death for his unmarried daughters, and then leaving them }ignominiously dependent upon male relations, he educated them to inde- pendenee, made them able both to main- tain and to’ protect themselves, 1t would save him and them a world of unhappiness. A Watch the Size ofa Flea.

There is a watch ia the Swiss museum only three-sixteenths of an inch in dia- meter, inserted in the top of a pencil case. Its little dial not oaly indicates hours,, minutes and seconds, but also days of the month. It isa relic of the time when watches were inserted in suvff boxes, shirt studs and finger rings. Some were fantastic—oval, octungular cruciform or inthe shape of pearls, tulips, etc.
