Heavy Porkxer.—Mr. William Clarke, of North Wiltshire, well knowu as one of the most successful priz? wiaoners at the Provincial Exhibition—was in town to-day with two fine porkers. One of these killed at nine months’ old weighed 501 !bs. This pig took first prizo as a pure bred Yorkshire sow in the exhibitions of 1891 and 1892, and made as fine a porker as we have seen for many a day. This isthe way to raise pork to a profit.

Mr. DeSovres’ Lectcre.—It cannot be said that the Rev. Mr. VeSoyres’ lecture was a great effort; but it was, undoubtedly, very very pleasing Tennyson the man was pee sented in the midst of his closest fiiends, by a close friend of some of his friends, by a cul- tured gentleman— one slightly acquainted with the poet himself and fully conversant with his works, as well as with the whole range of Engiish literature. It is needless to say that the lecture was appreciated by the audience. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Hon. David Laird, and seconded by A. B. Warburton. Esq, M. P. P. The Rev. Mr. Hamlyn occupied the chair.

Temperance.—The public meeting lat evening held in the Division room was well attended, Mr. W G_ Sabine presiding. Excellent temperance addresses were given by Rev Mr. Em-ry, Messrs. Ross, Chap- pell and Harris. Temperance svlos were well rendered by Miss Stair, Mrs. Mallory, and Messrs. Buchanuao, Ross and Down, a recitation by Mr. Buchannan and a reading by Miss Clark. Mrs. Johnson, President of the W. C T. U., was present, and in response to aninvitation, said she would hke to remind the pareats of Charlottetown that as temperance text bowks are now taught in the public schools at the op‘ion of parents, she huped every parent and guar- dian would feel it their duty to see that their boys and girls were so instracted. It was to her mind s question of very great importance and she would like to see it be-

IMPERIAL FEDERATION.

A Scheme Proposed.

Toronto, Nov. 15.

The Globe cable says that the special committee appointed by the Ceuncil of Im- perial Federation League to consider de- finite proposals for a federation of the self- governing bodies of the British empire have presented an exhaustive report. The com- mittee suggests the appointment of an Im perial Council to give a united voice to the empire in time of peace and enable the de- fence of the empire in time of war to be undertaken by its united forces and reserves. The Council should consist, it urges, of members appointed by each of the various self-governing colonies; also the British Prime Minister, Secretaries of State for foreign affairs, for war, for the colonies and for India, uf the First Lord of the Admiralty and Chancellor of the Ex- chequer. The method of raising fuads at the ontset should be left to the choice of the self-governing states; but a uniform principle might afterwards be found and substituted. The committee propose that an Imperial Conference be summoned te consider the question. Such conference, if it is deemed necessary, to be preceded by a Royal Commission, The commit ee closes its report with a strong appeal to the Min-

A bey in Andover has died under unusual circumstances. He was six years old and hard toawaken. M4His father roused him the other morning by pulling him out of bed by the feer. The lad fell on the floor and immediately expired. On a post- mortem examination the doctor discovered some indications which led him to conelude that the boy died from the cffscts of the sudden shock.
