"This Ain't The Summer A Of Love“, "E.T.I.", and "Tattoo Vampire" are ' really the only rock songS‘ of the album, but they are tempered with underlying' melodies not before found
in a Cult rocker.
T"True Confessions", _ , "The Revenge Of Vera ‘ “4 Genini" (which has an eerie Spoken beginning by Patti Smith)’and "Sinful Love" are one step down from rock. "SinfulLove" is the best of the three, sounding much like it was done by Rexy Music.

"Tenderloin", and "Debbie Denise" are the nearest BOC has yet come to a ballad. Listen carefully to these songs three times and you'll want to hear them a hundred times more.
. Since there are ten tunes
on the album, there is one
more song I have yet to mention. I'be saved the
best to the last. It's called "(Don't Fear)
The Reaper" and is the single
fromuAgents Of Fortune". With any kind of promotion this song could become BOC's first hit single. Much like the Style of the‘ late Sixties, this song almost rises above adequate description. The guitar lick is immediately
_ satisfying and the harmony-of_ ' BOC's lead vocalists adds;
the florishing touch to this masterpiece. Many bands suffer because they are
Wlimited to the numbers-
with which their voccalist is comfortable. But the fact that all the members of BOC sing, thus giving a totally different feel, to each of the songs, is

The Bee Gees are a prime example of this. They amazed themselves in the studio one day when they started harmonizing around a funky beat and found

good, it felt good. This sOng eventually became known as "Jive Talkin'" and a disco dominated album, "Main Course", followed. "Children Of The World" picks up at the lowest point of "Main Course" and as far as creativity goes, and then proceeds to sink several hundreds levels farther down. The brothers couldn't eVen come up with
some original titles for their
"new" songs. "you Should Be
Dancing", "LOvers", and "Boogie
Child", among many others, are about as original as a MacDonald's hamburger. I As a matter of fact, this album comes up on me

a bunch of noisemakers into a viable rock group. This is the first Grand Funk album I've liked since "We're An American Band". It doesn't seem possible there has been fOur dimal offerings from them since that album. "Shinin'

band. Particular stand- outs are "Just Couldn't Wait", "Can You Do It", and "1976". ; For the second time in oh too many years, I can‘ say Grand Funk has given rus a solid rock album.

With their trakc record though, their next worth while album will be released around 1980. I don't think I can wait for it. How about' you, Grand Funk fan? (* * *) RASPBERRIES BEST - RASPBERRIES (CAPITAL RECORDS)
The Raspberries were bne of those odd groups who peaked in their first year of existence and then continually slid downhill till their break— up. Their success in the first year included the hits Go All The Way", "let's Pretend“, and "I Wanna Be With You". This tuff is elementary rock'n roll, but already Eric Carmen was sup- plying us with some of the most interesting hooks singles had up to that time. They were catchy and people bought their
records. The Raspberries re~surfaced in 1974 with "Overnight Sensation — A Hit Record", which was their best single. It wasn't enough to keep the band together and they split up in late 1974.
Of course, Eric Carmen is in the chips with his solo career blossoming into three hit singles and a number one selling album. Oddly enough, ' that was the identical story of the Raspberries. Carmen' second album will be very
gimportant as it should
indicate whether or not his solo career will be any more suedessful than his old group.
It seems to me we wouldn't have been offered
_this album by Capital if
it wasn't for Carmen's
solo success as his name
is well-spread over the album jacket. Your best bet is to look for
the old Raspberries singles. This album just isn't
worth the money.
