The Gallery

The Confederation Center Art Gallery is presently. displaying three new exhibj its in addition to the one on 18th Century British Stage which has been held over for an extra week.

One of the exhibits,"A Pra- rie Sweet" on the main flo— or of the gallery is a co- llection of works by three artists dealing with land— scape art as perceived thr- ough the windshield of an automobile. The particular area in mind is Manitoba,

Sasketchewan and Alberta. Harlan Hoase does a few works in metal but the maj- or part of his work is cer— amic reliefs with canvas ' highways coming out of them and falling down to the fl— oor. Most of Bob Sinclair's works are done with water- colors and almost all with highways bisecting the pai— nting. He uses an inter— esting technique in which he doesn't paint the pic- ” ture but lets it fade out into the pencils outline. The third artist, Al Wile son, does sculptures of' landscape images out of al— -uminum with gold leaf app- lied to it.

Artefacts for Future At- lantis (which should be up by Tuesday) is an exchange exhibition between the Ni— agra artists Cooperative & the Crusader's School of Humor Without Joke, of Prague Czechoslovakia. It is a collection of color transparencies, from both places put together to give an idea in the differences in art between two differ— ent countries.

in the Center's Concourse, isra display on Oceanography over the past one hundred years. The name of the ex- hibit comes from the H.M.S. Challenger which sailed fr- om Halifax in 1873 to stu- dy ocean life, currents, depths, etc., throughout

the world. The voyage at the end of 3% years drew up 50

volumes of information which formed-the basis for present day oceanography. The exhibit includes the history of the Challenger's voyage, models of ships that have studied oceanogr- aphy, logs, plant life, fish, corral, and a whole assortment of other arte- facts related to the topic.

Allen in Lounge

It is a little late, due 10 the fact that the paper didn't come out last week,

worth mentioning something about the Chad Allan con- cert during Winter Carnival. He did a night club type

performance, and the lounge in the Barn was the perfect place for it. He put on an excellent concert but it

wouldn't have come across

at all if it hadn't been for the fantastic audience. The audience was\really into

the music and Chad Allen was receptive to what they Wan— ted to hear. ‘_ Allen would begin each set with some funky piano play- ing doing mostly his own

songs. He would then switch to his guitar which he cou- ld very effectively use to

played quite a few old sdn- gs by Chuck Berry, ElVis Presley, Buddy Holly and a few songs that people had asked him to play. He play- ed off the vibes of the au— dience and if a set was going well he would keep it going. ‘ -Because of the excellent reception that Chad Allen ‘received, he accepted to do-a second concert the ne— xt day. It was moved up- stairs to have more room but something was really- lost. It just didn't have the same sort of spontan—
