Professor Andrew Robb, chairman of the Department of History, researcher Ruth Freeman, and Earl Taylor, a friend of the late Carl Burke look over some of the nenorabilia collected by

Capt. Burke during his lifetime.

The subject of

a research project at UPEI, Capt. Burke was an

‘x_ aviator and entrepreneur who founded Maritime

Central Airways, the predecessor of Eastern

Provincial Airways.

The aviation career of the late Captain Carl Burke is the subject of research at the University of Prince Edward Island.

Professor Andrew Robb, Chariman of the Department of.History, has announced the department has contracted’ with the Estate of Carl Burke to compile and catalog material on his career for presentation to the Provincial Archives. In making the announcement Prof.Robb said the task has been assigned to an

‘honors history graduate,

Ms. Ruth Freeman, UPEI Class '81. Ms. Freeman

is in the process of cataloging material, such as old photographs, news clippings, busineSS' correspondence, a Maritime Central Airways scrapbook, old newspapers and other items that Captain Burke saved during his lifetime. However, the search is on

fOr more material: material that would assist Ms. Freeman in completing the career story of Prince Edward Island's extraordinary aviator and entrepreneur. Because of

this comprehensive approach the researcher is inter— ested in receiving information on all aspects of aviation in PEI beginning with the first take off and landing which occured in 1912. Connenting on the project researcher Freeman says "we can't hope to come up with every scrap of information on his career but we are looking forward to a response from the people of the province." Meanwhile,
