Winnipeg. Man. -After visiting the Morrison's on Pilgrim BL. St Vital, I called at Gil-Fifth 5t. where I met members of the Van lderstlne family. When .1 called at ihd Van Iderstlne home. they ad as their guest a Mrs. MlcQuai-rie. a native of Ontario. whose husband trained for the ministry o! the Presbyterian Church at the Maill- toba College. Winnipeg, (once Pres~ byterian Church property. now. be case of Union, sold to the B. Catl o» lic Church). but because of the Church Union controversy, refused to take a parish-thus- reiuaed or- dination. After receiving this ln- formation. the conversation led to the benefits and non-benefits o.‘ Church Union. with its‘ results in the spiritual life of the ale. a:- ter some discussion. my r l! was. The conversation then was in regards to congregational affairs of the church-and l was informed that a new organ had been install- ed in St. Vital United Church ~ part of the money to defray the cost was raised by several dances in a hall (not the church haii). Immediately going back to the spiritual life of the church, I mea- tioned the rightness of such an action-stating that God's people are mquested to raise money by free will ofierings according to the tithe. which la still bindltla on the church. ‘

The question of dancing follow- ed-agaln the rightness or the wrongness —supposing man need- ed recreation. My reply was. "A rodly lady married a wordiy man. who shortly after marriage wanted his wife to attend a dance. The wife agreed. if her husband would do what she did. He consents‘. After further discussion on church affairs. Mrs. MacQuarrie departed. and our conversation drifted to TILL‘ and her affairs in general.
