Scoark—There is a continuance of the strong tone in sugar. In fact refiners are very indifferent sellers, and often refuse point blank to quote a figure. The market has advanced another fe for granulated, and we now quote 6{c to 7c, with sellers claiming decided strength at the outside. Yellows have exhibited equal strength, and none are now obtainable under 5e to dle. From all quarters the advices indicate strong and advancing markets. Greenock this morning was cabled higher. In Belgium the weather has seriously damaged the beet crop. The advance in beet since March has heen 8s.—Gazette.

Mr. Doyle was lying a corpse in the house at the time, and his son, who was sleeping up stairs, had & narrow escape, beiug considerably burned and otherwise injured. It ia said those who had been sitting up with the corpse fell asleep, aud the fire resulted from an accident of sume kind. The carpse was with considerable diffculty got out of the burning building.

A GANG of British forgers on the 20th pre- sented forged notes on the Bank of Scotland and other British Banks on Banks doing European business in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Ia Toronto they succeedod in cathing two £50 cheques; in Ottawa they were unsuccessful, but were allowed to go untrrested, theugh the genuineness of the note was doubted.
