The pre-ident of the society, Miss Fennessey, read a very touching address and presented Rev, Sister St. Peter, in the name of the society, with a purse of $20.00 as a proof of their love aad appreciation. Atthe meeting which followed, Rev. Father Ignatius Macdonald delivered a beautiful instruction, at the close of which | he feelingly elluded tothe great good Sister St. Peter had accomplished in our midst, aud the deep sense of gratitude which all should feel towards her.
After Benediction of the Blessed Sacra- ment, during which many fervent prayers were offered tor the safe return of the kird sisters, the society parted from them, sad yet hopeful that the near future may see them 10 our midst again.
An interesting reception and concert was given by the ladies at the Convent of Notre Dame last Saturday evening, in hono. of the Rev. Mother Provincial and Rev. Sister | St. Peter, Superior atthe Convent, who were to. leave on Mcndey morning. The programme consisted of recitations by Mise Celia Kelly, M'ss Edith Murray, Miss Ida Byrne, and an original address in French by Miss Katie Murray; songs by Misses k dith Fortierand Antoinette DeLisle; piano duets by Misses Josie Carroll, Katie Kelly, Maricn Dovle, Annie Clerkin, and Misses Bernadotte Giliis and Blanche Hamlin; selections by the mandoiin club consisting of Misses Belle McDonald, Emil La Rue, Eliza O’Neill and Alboa Miller. Mrs. James Byrne, with her beaw- tiful rich voice, rendered the “Sky Lark” to general eatisfaction.
A short address was made by Mr. Wim. T. Murray, of Boston, who is making a short visit to his three daughters, pupils at the conyent;
Mother Provincial and Mother Superior left by train this morning en route to Montreal where they attend the annual retreat and general election of the order next week.

Mr. W. C. McDonald, of Montreal, vho used to be the largest mavufacturer of tobacco in the Dominion, but who has been force’ to close his factory on account of Mr. Fielding’s tariff, was at Ottawa last week to interview the Goverament about the tobacco duties.
The new Victoria tridge over the St Lawrence at Montreal will shortly be commenced. The old historic tubular bridge, whieh was regarded as ove of the seven wonders of the world, will be re- placed by a new open steel truss structure of the latest design. The new bridge wiil contain, besides a double railway track, faci'ities for foot passengers, vehicles and electric railway. Active work will be commenced almost immediately, and it is huped the bridge will be completed within @ year,

From Hatirax.—The steamer Fastnet, Captain Bethel, arrived from Halifax at six o’clock yesterday morning, bringing @ general cargo. She sailed on return this forenoon at ten o’clock, with a cargo made up mainly of oate, pork and lobsters. The Fastnet was due hereon Thursday evening, but was detained by fog.
Poice Covrr.—This forenoon Alexand: r° McNeill, for a second infraction of the Scott Act, was fined $100 and $4.65 costs or two months imprisonment. The case against Angus Deroche and Sarah Jane Higgins were dismissed. Daniel McMillan, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined $5 or 40 days imprisonment. Frank Riggs, for assulting Nelson Brace, was fined $2 cr 10 days.
At tee Burts.—The first of a series of intermaritime shooting matches was shot throughout Canada on Saturday. Three teams shot at Kensington range, two re- prerenting the 82nd Battalion and one the Artillery. The second team of the 820d Battalion and the Artillery did not finish until today. The total of the first 82nd team was 896 pointe. Throughout the Dominion the 82nd Battalion heads the list.
Goop News.—The Summerside corres- pondent of the Guardian writes: Mr. R. C. McLeod received a telegram on Satur- day evening from his lawyer, Mr. Ritchie, Halifax, informing him that the three cases between him and the U. S. Marine Insurance Co., the Western Assurance Co. and the Assurance Co. of North America, in the matter of the policies on the brigt. Hattie Louise, have been decided in his favor.

Divorcep ix Bosrox.—The Boston Rv- cord, reporting divorce cases recently tricd in the Massachusetts Superior Court saye : An excellent representaiive of the wornen of Prince Edward I-land was Abbie Jane Pursey, who was married to George H. in. Glasgow, P. E. L., April 1895. They lived there about two anda half yesrs afier the wedding and then came to Bcs- ton. After about six months here the husband went bach to Prince Edward Island, and said as soon as he could get money he would send for his wife, but he has not yet sent for her. Indeed he bas come back to this neighborhood and has been living in this aeighborhood.
