A Farmers’ Association.

Vinnipec, Nov. 21.

| Ata large meeting of farmers at Portage La Prarie yesterday resolutions were passed declaring that the present prices of wheat compared with the prices abroad show that an unjust combination has been made against the farmers; that in view of the fact that all industries in America have formed combinations for mutual support, that the time has arrived for the farmers te combine, in order to get fair prices for their produce, and prevent their being vietimiaed by wheat rings and milling asso- clations. The Standard’s Vienna ~ correspondent says he hears from good authority that the Chinese Government has sent a circular to eighteen viceroys, pointing out the gravity of the political situation, and expressing a firm resolution to oppose to the utmost the French invaders. The daily Telegraph's correspondent at Paris says in all proba- bility hostilities between France and China will break out within a few hours.

There is a coolness between Cardinal Manning and Mr. Errington, both of whom are now here. Cardinal Manning thinks that the presence in Rome of Mr. E:rmngton has an injurious effect upon the cause of the Church in England.

Shot Dead.

SACKVILLE, Nov. 22. Benjamin Smith, aged 30 years, a young and prosperous farmer, was shot dead at a charivari last night at Mount Whatley six miles from here. The shooting was acci- dental.
