Armonda Hudson and George Beecher, freighters from Port Pierre, reports while encamped at Spine Springs on Friday night were attacked by Indians, their waggons riddled with bullets and arrows and some horses killed. They escaped on one horse to the next station, and returning in the morning found their waggons undisturbed, but the balance of the steck gone.

The seventh general conference of the Evangelical Alliance began its session here to-day. A large number of delegates have arrived and more than 1500 visitors, to at- tend thesession which will continue one week. Several delegates from the United States will deliver addresses.

About 12 o'clock to-day, a man named Rogers, a brakeman employed on the Inter- colonial Railway at Pictou landing, met with a painful :accident which resulted fa- tally. He was, engaged in shunting in the yard, and in attempting to jump.on the eow-catcher as the engine was passing the switch, his foot.slipped and the wheels of the engine passed over both his legs. Drs. Kirkwood and. Stewart, from Pictou, and Johnson, of Stellarton, were called, and attempted to amputate the injured limbs, but the unfortunate man died before this could be accomplished. He leaves a wife and two children, whe reside at Stellar- ton, N. 8.

It is on the 25th of next month that the eighteenth centenary of the destruction of Pompeii is to be celebrated at Naples.

The manager of a Home for Friendless Girls at Deptford has been acquitted, after a protracted trial, of the charge of man- slaughter by starving one of the children under her care.

The Inland Revenue returns for the month of July amount to $319,730.03,mak- ing a total of $3,466,378.74 for the first six months of 1879.. For a similar period last year they were $3,017,285. 34.

The Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa and Oc- cident railway and Canada Central railway have offered to give ten per cent. of their earnings during the Dominion Exhibition te the Ottawa Demonstration Committee.

The athletic sports and harvest home in connection with the Ontario Agri- cultural College were held at Guelph Sa- turday. The affair was a great success, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the large number of visiters present.

Lizzie Rompf, of Louisville, married Joseph Drago when she was only 15 years old, and -within three months obtained a divorce. At 16 she was unted to him again by a second ceremony, and this time six months elapsed before a separation. She is now nearly seventeen, and Drago is woving her anew.

The repert of a shocking affair comes from Brighton, Carlton county, N. B. Donald McLeod was employed by James Page to watch his orchard from depreda- tions by boys. Late on Sunday evening a son of McLeod’s passed through the orchard to shorten.the walk heme and was shot by his father. Fatal results are anticipated.
