On October 26/92 most of Canada voted ‘‘no’’ to the Charlottetown Accord. P.E.I., however, voted ‘‘yes’’. Was there something Islanders knew that the rest of Canada didn’t?
We spent hours trying to find the answer, and after searching |
through the fine print of the Accord, we found some startling Constitutional amendments that may have tilted the scales to a ‘‘yes’’ vote on P.E.I.
-All official government documents must have the logo of a beaver with a hockey stick on the top left hand corner to make it official.
-All senators must retire before rigor mortis sets in. -Canadian University tuition will be based upon National rankings ... lower rankings means lower tuition.
-Foreign aid policy will be abolished. Allaid going to whining foreign countries will be given to needy Canadian provinces. -Canada will become trilingual.. All signs will be written in English, French and Newfie.
-The number of seats held in parliament per province is deter- mined by amount of BEvERages drank per capita.
-The coach of the winning Stanley Cup team becomes the Prime Minister for a year.
