This is what we are rapidly | approaching te, and if the Geverament eannot | effect credit in London, to draw on in payment | for the aame falling due on the Cunard estate, I | think the Banke will either have to atop specie payment or shut up for a time, whieh will not ealg entail rain on the trader, but eventually fall | aa heavily on the agricultural classes. The atock now in this Island ia not one-sixth more | than it was last year: nor does the fall in the price of shipping apply to this Island with any force. It | applies with more force te these ships sent from St. John and Quebec. The people of England | ought ta be prond of these Colonies, when they Sook at auch eplendid ships ae are sent fram New Tirunewiek and Quehee. Thev ere classed for | seven yeara, when they shanld be classed fur | twelve. Ther are equal to ships built of English eth, heing bailt of material that w'!! not take the dry rot. Now, I wish te show that the canse of the low price of these aplendid ships sent home | from the sister Provinees, ia that there are more of them in the market than are required; this is the reason why their price is so much depressed. The shine we bnild range from 100 te 300 tone, and aa but few ao awall are sent te market from | ather parts.—the requirements being greater, our veaerle have not fallen equalle low in price with | these of St John and Quebec. These vessels range from 300 te 2,000 tons register. There are | bat thiety or forty Teland vessels unenld in the | English market. It is the withdrawal of the | money from thie Colony that makes the presenre. J da nat mean te throw any blame on the Banks; I kaow better. Thev must respect the righta of their shareholders. If the Banka have not got billx ofexchange, they mnat pay out the gold; and, | if means are not obtained before the first of July, the Banks will have te eloae. Their object was to drive ua inte Confederation. They thought it would release ua from these diffien!ties, and that the money we would get out of Confederation | wonld pay for the Cunard estate’ They were | willing te sell our rights for the self interest of a few. But before closing, Mr. Chairman, I would chaerce there ia a very interesting tale being pebliahed at Londen.
