The fourth session of the Ontario legisla- ture was opened this afternoon by Lieut.- Gov. Robinson with the usual ceremonies. The most gratifying thing mentioned in the speech is the anticipation of a million dol- lars revenues from timber dues and crown lands during the present year.

It is expected that at the expiration of the arrangement between the Pullman Car Co. and the Grand Trunk next year, the Grand Trunk will run its own sleepers.

Maclean, the late Cashier of the Merchants’ Bink of Halifax, who was ‘pulled down,” and dismissed from the service of the Bank, having been mixed up in the McDonald affair, is now in Boston. It is not known whether he has ob- tained employment Maclean has been most uof rtunate—‘*more sinned against than sinn nz.” The general expression of feeling in H»lifax is one of sympathy for him. He} had always borne a character for integrity.

Several Indians crossed on the ice from Lennox Island to Port Hill on Monday,the 11th instant. Ice is fast making in Rich- mond Bay.

Sailed from Port Hill, on Friday, the Ist instant, schooner *‘Cypher,” John M. Gal- lant master. for Swansea, with a cargo of 8.250 feet of deals, 1,000 feet of boards, 21 tons of hardwood, and 31,000 bushels of oats, shipped by Hon. John Yeo.

James McLellan, son of Hugh McLellan, of this town, is suppose : to have either been drowned at Charivttetown oae night last week, or have gone in the last trip of the American steamer to Boston. The latter is probably what has become of the young man, as we have seen nothing in the Char- lottetown papers of the affair.

Thomas, Richard and John Clarke, of Hill's River, near Alberton, were lodged in the County jail here yesterday,with very serious charges against them, The former is charyved with having threatened the lives of diffrent people, while the complaint against the two latter is for attempting to set fire to their father’s barn. The whole three of them, after being jailed, carried on as if they were fit subjects for the luna- tic asylum, but the supposition is that they are not so crazy as they would have people believe.
