The death occurred in the Prince County Hospital on Sep— tember 25th of James A. Mac- Learn of Lot 11 in his seventy- .Lim as he was known to his many friends and neighbours was a true friend and favourite in all circles as was shown by messages, cards and ﬂowers received and was one of the oldest. soldiers on the Island, in point of service having, at the age of fifteen and a half years, joined the R.C.R. Garrison In- fantry in the old City of Halifax. 0n receiving his Honourable Discharge from the Canadian Forces, he enlisted in the United States Army and saw service in the Phillipines. Following his discharge from the US. Army, he enlisted in the Imperial Army with the 6th Dragoon Guards and fought at Bloomfonteine, South Africa attaining the rank of Cor- poral. He served with this unit five years in India and at the outbreak of World War I was transferred to the Reserve Army lst life guards British Expedi- tionary force, and then from there with the King’s Household Cavalry.

In August 1914 he was with his unit ‘as Corporal all through the battle of Mons and several/ actions, falling all together he was with his unit for a peroid of 4 years and ten months. Jim was badly wounded when burned by a high explosive shell while on duty in the front line. At the end of hostilities re returned to Can- ada; took up farming and fishing at Lot Eleven where he remain- ed till his decease. ‘

When World War II began he joined the Veterans Guard of Canada and served till the end. Among his cherished awards was the Mons star given only to those who were in France in 1914, also the General Service and Victory

Medals, and General Service 1939. In October, 1904 he married

Sadie Adams, who is left to mourn his great loss and one son Reginald on the car ferry “Abeg- weit" and one brother Kenneth in Victoria. RBI and one sis- ter, Mrs. Mary Mallett in Van- couver. British Columbia. Also

. six grandchildren.

His funeral was held from his late residence in Lot 11 to St.
