Asher Fredricks says he wants to see a Student Union that works “with students, for stu- dents”, some good terms be- tween the Union and the stu- dents themselves. Asher said that this has been lacking for sometime.

“T want to see a Union that’s more accountable,” Fredricks simply stated, “I want to see a Union that’s more engaged.” This would require empower- ing the students with decision- making sway, and Fredricks wants to see the accountabil- ity of the Union made pub- lic for the students, including routine publication of Union

Criticism won’t get Frost down

They say no publicity is bad public-

ity, and in the case of Nic Frost, it almost seems like a way of life. -

Since deciding to run for Student Union President, Frost’s campaign has been rife with accusations. From putting up posters too early to accusations of not being fit for the position, Frost has taken everything in stride and has never allowed any- one to stop him from accomplishing what he says this school needs.

While most candidates are focus- ing on student engagement and stu- dent fees, Frost has also embraced the smaller things around the school: salting sidewalks and lowering pric- es at Chartwell’s.

He has also taken a comedic ap- proach to running his campaign, with his posters featuring his face imposed on Will Farrell’s body, with

a declaration to vote for him because his “dad said he needed to get a job by Friday.”

Online videos of him, featured on Facebook, use reference to the WWP’s Mr. Perfect. In Mr. Perfect’s videos, he performs impressive acts of athleticism. Frost does much the same, playing a perfect game of darts, nailing strike after strike in bowling, and clearing a pool table | without a single miss. All of which | seems to say, “if I can do this, think | of what I could do for the school.”

But all this has not been without criticism.

Despite this Frost has remained persistent and | has stuck to his guns, swearing that if he is elected president, some seri- ous changes would be heading to the UPEI Student Union

goals, meetings and practices online on the SU website. “If they published online, students don’t forget throughout the year what you promised them. Stuff like that is on there, and they’re gonna hold you accountable to that.” He goes so far as to say that impeachment proceedings should be considered, so reper- cussions of failing to meet their tasks has stern and immediate consequence.

“Tf they[the students] demand more from us, we can perform to the best of our abilities and goals.”

Accountability seems to be the main focus of Asher’s cam- paign.

He has been outspoken on many issues pertaining to the

This is also his second attempt at the presidential seat.

Last year he lost to current president Justin Douglas, but it failed to deter him from run- ning again.

He said many things hap- pened over the year to cause him to run again and has so far garnered a lot of attention on campus from people interested in seeing Asher take over as the Student Union.

Never one to shy away from making an opinion, Asher has made it clear that he fully in- tends to get work done if he is elected as president of the Stu- dent Union, and plans on start- ing right away.
