The Valedictury by Miss Marshal drew forth round after round of applause from the audience. On behalf of the graduating class she paid a high compliment to the principal, and spoke in the highest terms of the preceptrees, Mra. Archibald, and her assist- puts. She said her class:were proud to be eonnected with an institution which was. the first in Canada tothrow down the barriers and admit women. Already her list of gra- duates contained the names of a number of the fairer sex. In closing, she expressed the sorrow she and her classmates felt at leaving the institution, where they had met so many whose faces would be held as luyed possessions in the future. She hoped all of the gradu- ating class would liye jn such away that when they passed away it would be said of them that they have done what they could.

A circular has been issued by the Inland Revenue Department calling attention to the fact that methylated spirits will here- after be manufactured under the supervi- sion of the Depari:ment here, and will be sold to varnish makers and other business at cost prices. There are 7 or & manufac- turers of this article who will be compelled to discontinue its manufacture. This re- gulation has been rendered necessary from the abuses which have hitherto prevailed by which methylated spirits have been suld to druggists and used extensively in place offalcohoi, and also been used extensively in the preparation of beverages.

BE IT ENACTED bythe City Council of the City of Charlottetown as loliows :—

1, From and after the first day of June, in the year of Uur Lora one thou-and eight hundred and eighty-eight. uucil the firsi day of October, in the said year, no Pugs or Swine shai] be kep: within the limits of the Ci y of Charlottetown ; and inevery succeedivg year no Pigsor Swine shall be kept within tke limits of the said Cit from the first day of May until the first day of October in each year :

Provided always that Pigs or Swine may be brourht into the said City for the purpose of pub he exhibition, or tor transit, Shipmeut or saie, if they are not kept therein longer than five days.

2. For every Pig kept in the said City in viola- tion of the fureguing section the owner or keeper thereof shall forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding Five Doliars for the first offence, and a further sum not exceeding Five Dollars for every subse- quent oifence, ; “

3. From and-afterthe first day of January, in the yearof Our Lord ‘one thousand efgh: hun- dred and eighty-nine, no erection, building or place within the City of Charlottetown shail ‘be used as a Slaughter House, or for the purpose of slaughtering animals therein :

Provided that the Board of Health may, if they see fit, grunta license toany prrson or persons to slaughter cattle within the limits of the said City, between the first day of December and the first day of April in each year, upon such terms and conditions and subject to such restrictions and regulations as may be imposed by the seid Board of Health. ‘
