Born Were Drownep —At the village of Tecumseh, Ontario, one night last week, the infant daughter of Mrs George Rev~ volds fell into a cistern. Mrs Reynolds heard the splash and running to the cis- tern, jumped in to rescue her child. The water being deep and the walis of the cistern steep and sli ppery, Mrs Reyno!ds was unable to get outand an hour later the bodies of mother and child were found at the bottom of the well,locked in a death embrace.

New Srrie Burrer—The Antigonish Casket says thata few days ago, four tubs of butter, as was supposed, were purchased at the store of McCurdy & Co from a man in Pictou County. The aggregate net was 125 pounds. Upou examination it was found that the enterprising farmer had disposed of nearly a hundredweight of stones at a profitable rate of 15 cents a pound, receiving over half the price in cash. If he continues in this paying busi~ ness - of which there 1s some doubt—he wi!l not need to go to the K’ondike.
