$69,000 Rerenp Dvutres.—Dr. Tupper stated that Mr. Cartwright has said he (Mr. C.) would rather put his hand into the Treasury, and take out money for eiec- tion purposes, than adopt the means of taking private subscriptions. Dr. Tupper states that Mr. Cartwright has put his theory into practice. $69,000 of duties were refunded toa Railway Company which had rendered the Government aid in elec- tions.

Somz indiscreet Grit undertook to tell Dr. Tupper last night that he did not be- lieve the Examiner, when that gentleman alluded to a statement which appeared in yesterday’s issue. Dr. Tupper replied : ‘¢ If you do not believe the Examiner, go to the report of Mr. McKenzie’s speech in Hansard, which is exactly the same as that put forth by the Exawier.” The Grit collapsed and felt sorry for speaking.

C., Sept. 2.— The following is the end of an address to the Queen, passed hy a vote of 14 to 9 inthe Assembly :—‘ To prevent, if possible, a repetition in the future of the disasters of the past, your pe- titioners with great regret feel compelled, ‘in defence of the interests of this Province, to resort to the unavoidable alternative forced upon them by the conduct of the present Dominion Government, and do therefore humbly pray that in the event of the Dominion Government failing to carry into effect the settlement of 1873, on or be- fore the first day of May next. Your Majesty will be graciously pleased to order and direct that British Columbia shall there- fore have the right to conclusively collect her customs, and excise duties, and to withdraw from the union ; and shall also, in any event, be entitled to be compensated by the Dominion for losses sustained by reason of past delays and failure of the Dominion Government to carry out their railway and other obligations to the Province.” TO LET,

It is a well-know fact that for many years past the prices of other Cape Breton coals have been regulated by the rates fixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while it is true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various. prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAT, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior lasting qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compared with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much higher price. ;

‘The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to caution the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ‘‘ EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” **‘SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coal as SY DNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts to sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the sraNDARD character of SYDNEY COAL.

It has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties giving orders to truckmen and others for SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal. The Public are cautioned against permitting themselves to be imposed upon in this way.

Every vessei loaded at THE SYDNEY MINES is furnished with a certificate of the cargo being Sydney Coal. Parties purchasing should satisfy themselves by demanding the production of this certiticate.
