Fishing Plant Experts To . . Work At Souris
Three exverts from the fishing plant at Queensport, N.S., were in souris last week making final ar- tgnge!nCl'lL5 to Join the staff of Griffin Fisheries Ltd. Headed by Mr, Reynolds, who has had 80 years experience, the men expect to return to Souria with their families at the end of this week. The small draggers cannot get through Oman and are not large enough to go outside and around Cape Breton, and their diversion to souris will make it possible to

Montague Bank Branches To Close Saturdays
..iIt was announced Saturday that the Montague branches of the Bank of Nova Scotia and the Can- adian Bank of Commerce would close all day Saturday. beginning January 29. This plan is being adopted in view of the modern trend of business to give personnel the benefit of a five-day week. an official said. However. as a con- venience to customers, banking hours will be extended on Friday, the bank opening at 9.30 a.m. and closing at 4.30 p.m.. thus giving two hours extra service on Friday.

The business session opened with the singing of hymns, followed by readin got the minutes. To make plans for a variety concert an en- tertainment committee was named as follows: Mr. 5. Walker, Mr. 1?. Benton, Mr. E. Easton.
The guest speaker of the even- ing was Rev. D. Campbell of Man- tague who wss introduced by Mr. C. Lelacheur.
Mr. Campbell gave the interested audience some of his impressions of the Holy Land and other Far Eastern parts while serving in the R.C.A.F. It was in 1942 that he arrived in South Africa on the first leg of his journey. He touched on the South African racial problem which has become even more cru- cial in recent months. Egypt he defined as a country where the great mass of people are in pov- erty and ridden by disease. The Valley of the Nile is very fertile, but cultivated by obsolete meth- ods. In Cairo, he was at first over- whelmed by importunate store- keepera and shoe-shine boys who practically force their wares on strangers in thestreets. Mr. Camp- bell feels that with the new gov- ernment now in power, there should be I. gradual improvement in the living conditions of the people of Egypt.
The ancient way from Jerusalem to Jericho Mr. Campbell found a very rough passage. the hazards increased by excited native drivers who often took both hands from the wheel to gesticulate. A small corner of the original garden! of Gethsemane is preserved by monks of the Franciscan order. A ruinous inn called ”'f'he Good Samaritan" yis still in evidence on the way to yderlcho. From there Mr. Campbell crossed the Jordan and passed over the mountains where Abraham was buried. Through a troubled Trans-Jordan where the Arab Legion keeps martial order to Lebanon at the eastern end of the Mediterranean, and from there to Damascus. Here. on a street called Straight, Mr. Campbell saw the place where St. Paul stayed after his conversion. and which is now

Gregory Peck. Broderick Crawford, Anita Bjork and Rita Gain, the stars of this cloak-and-dagger thriller. a large supporting cast and a com- plete production unit went to Germany where the entire picture was filmed, being the first Cin- emascope feature to be made on the continent.

Building Auditorium In New Montague High School

The overall dimensions of the auditorium are 90 by 30 feet, but there will be a stage extending out 21 feet. When completed the auditorium will seat.over five nup- dred. '
The walls are to be finished with quarter, board" and insul-board. and the ceiling will be sound- proofed as much as possible. The cement floor will be covered with tile.

Rita is most attractive and displays her physical charms to good advantage. Walter Abel, Casey Adams and Buddy Ebsen, as a, hard bitten Army sergeant, add to the overall excellence of ”Night People" with capable play- ing of important supporting roles.

Nursery Club Annual Meeting At Montague
..'The annual meeting of the Nursery Club of the Kings County Hospital was held Monday evening at the 'home of Mrs. Horace Fraser with nine members present.
